A Parisian Wedding Venue Full of History
The Palace of Versailles was once home to 60,000 people and at the epicentre of the French Revolution. This flamboyant wedding venue was prospected by power couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and has held ceremonies for Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni, Vinita Mittal’s wedding to Amit Bhatia in 2004 and Wafic Said's daughter Rasha to Khaled Khawaja in 2012.
Work on these infamous grounds began in 1661, with more than 30,000 soldiers and workers creating the estate under the guidance of architects Louis Le Vau and Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Frescoes, marble, wood carvings and gilt were added to every moulding, cornice, ceiling and door of the palace, along with paintings from Greek and Roman mythologies.
In 1777, Marie Antoinette started reconfiguration on the Trianon Gardens and created the English Gardens. A whole model village was built around an artificial lake and took inspiration from a plethora of rural architecture. Now, this picturesque hamlet features a farm with a variety of animals that are looked after by the Foundation for Animal Welfare. The whole estate was truly an innovation at the time.
