For couples planning a Lake Como wedding, this storied villa offers a setting where celebration and scenery exist in perfect harmony.
A ceremony beneath the open sky. Aperitifs beside the pool. Dinner beneath a canopy of stars. This is Lake Como at its most captivating.

For couples seeking a historic Lake Como wedding venue, Villa Balbiano offers a rare combination of heritage and setting. Centuries-old architecture. Remarkable gardens. Front-row views of one of Italy’s most celebrated landscapes.
From welcome dinners on the terrace to candlelit receptions beside the lake, every moment feels thoughtfully composed — the kind of celebration guests remember long after the final toast.
And as evening settles over Lake Como, with music drifting through the gardens and reflections dancing on the water, the villa reveals its true character. A place where history, beauty and celebration meet.
The story of Villa Balbiano begins in the late 1500s, when Tolomeo Gallio commissioned the residence as his summer retreat on Lake Como. Over time the villa passed through the hands of distinguished Italian families, each leaving their mark on the estate. Its architecture evolved. The gardens matured. And the villa became known as one of the lake’s most impressive private residences.
Following a period of quiet neglect during the twentieth century, the estate was lovingly restored by the Ruspoli family, who carefully revived the villa’s interiors, artworks and gardens. Today the residence stands once again among Lake Como’s most admired estates - admired for its scale, its artistic heritage and its remarkable setting.

Villa Balbiano sits on the western shore of Lake Como in the village of Ossuccio, approximately one hour from Milan.
The estate can host weddings of up to around 200 guests, depending on the format and layout of the celebration. Villa Balbiano can accommodate up to 200 guests during a three-day hire, or a smaller event with upto 55 guests if hiring the venue for two days.
Yes. The villa features six elegant suites overlooking Lake Como which can host up to 12 guests, allowing the couple and close family to stay on the estate. Extra accommodation is also available in bedrooms in the Wing, Villino and Palazzino, with a total maximum capacity of 30 guests.<
Venue hire typically begins at around €50,000 for day events, while two and three-day hire starts from approximately €100,000, and potentially increasing to €250,000.

Few Lake Como wedding venues offer such a beautiful progression of spaces. Ceremonies often take place within the villa’s expansive gardens - three acres of sculpted greenery overlooking the lake. Guests gather as the water glimmers beyond the floral arch and the mountains frame the horizon.
From there, the celebration flows naturally.
Champagne and aperitifs are served on the pool terrace as golden hour settles across the lake. Dinner follows in the villa’s gardens or beneath an elegant marquee, where candlelight flickers and conversation drifts long into the evening.
Inside the villa itself, guests discover remarkable interiors filled with antique furnishings and artwork. The residence features six extraordinary suites, each designed by celebrated French interior designer Jacques Garcia. Each suite opens onto views of the lake - a gentle reminder that, here, nature and architecture exist in perfect harmony.
The estate also features:
- Two swimming pools set within the gardens
- A private pier for arrivals by boat
- Sweeping lakeside terraces for receptions
Villa Balbiano can host celebrations of up to 200 guests, making it ideal for both intimate weddings and larger multi-day gatherings.
Part of the magic of a Lake Como wedding lies in the journey itself. Located in the village of Ossuccio, the villa is approximately one hour from Milan Malpensa Airport and Milan Linate Airport.
Guests arriving by private aviation often choose Lugano Airport, just across the Swiss border. From there, the experience unfolds beautifully. Chauffeurs escort guests along the lakeside road. Boats glide across the water towards the villa’s private pier. And as the gates open, the gardens reveal themselves — elegant, expansive and unmistakably Italian.
