1. The Royal Wedding: William & Kate 2011 - London
The royal wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - Prince William and Catherine Middleton, was the event of the decade and took place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, London. The couple were cheered on from the streets by the thousands of onlookers who were gathered outside the Abbey to congratulate them. The wedding was sealed with a kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.
More than 1,900 people were invited to the ceremony including royalty, politicians and close friends. For the special ceremony, Kate wore a stunning dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. The wedding was marked with a public holiday across the nation and giant screens were set up in London’s Hyde Park to allow people to watch the wedding live.
2. A Lavish Affair: Folarin Alakija & Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar 2017 - Blenheim Palace
Coined as one of the most ‘lavish’ weddings ever, Folarin Alakija and Iranian beauty Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar tied the knot in June 2017 at a £5 million pound bash at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Folarin Alakija is one of Folorunsho Alakija’s four sons - one of the richest African women in the world.
The Woodstock venue, is the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill and was decorated with one million white roses, and an extravagant cake that was decorated with hundreds of ornate white roses. The wedding also hosted pop star Robin Thicke at an estimated cost of £150,000. We believe the cost of the venue and marquee alone were over £200,000.
3. Dual-Eccentricity: Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild 2015 - Kensington Palace
The year 2015 saw Nicky Hilton marry English heir, James Rothschild, in a lavish but eccentric day at Kensington Palace. During the wedding, bunches of white peonies and crates of champagne were seen being carried into the wedding venue, the Orangery at Kensington Palace. Guests were called into the Lawn Marquee for what started out as a very English affair, to reflect the groom's nationality. Soon after it was followed by a more American theme for bride Nicky who brought some home cuisine to the table.
4. The A-Lister: Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall 2016 - St Bride’s Church
5th March 2016 saw Media Mogul, Rupert Murdoch say ‘I do’ to former supermodel Jerry Hall. The pair were married at St. Bride's Church on the city's legendary Fleet Street. Later they decided to hold their reception at a venue named Spencer House. Jerry Hall wore a blue silk Vivienne Westwood dress, and two of her daughters from her relationship with Mick Jagger, Georgia May and Elizabeth, were bridesmaids. Famous friends and guests included the likes of Bob Geldof, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Caine.
5. A Modern Fairytale: Cheryl Cole and Ashley Cole 2006 - Wrotham Park
Then Pop star Cheryl Tweedy, married England footballer Ashley Cole in July 2006 at Wrotham Church - next to Wrotham Park stately home in Barnet, Hertfordshire. The affair was organised with a little help from Footballer's Wife, Victoria Beckham. Although Becks didn’t officially attend the wedding, Cheryl employed the Beckhams' favourite florist, baker and dress designer for her big day. At the Hertfordshire mansion, marquees and tight security hid the £500,000 wedding from the gathered photographers. Wrotham Park is an 18th century Palladian mansion, set in 2,500 acres of stunning countryside and is known as the ultra exclusive venue for high profile events.
6. Oriental Luxury: Mittal Wedding 2011 - Ciragan Palace
Over the last 10 years, Istanbul has become one of the most preferred international wedding destinations for billionaires. Lakshmi Mittal may be one of the richest Indians in the world, but he only became a household name in India in 2004 after his daughter's wedding. The Mittal family re-gained popularity in 2011 after his niece’s wedding. On 5th May, Vartika tied the knot at Ciragan Palace to husband Utsav. Over five hundred guests from around the world flew in to Turkey for the three-day festivities and three hundred rooms were booked at Istanbul’s most exclusive hotel - Ciragan Palace Kempinski.
7. Italian Romance: George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin - Aman Canal Grande
Located on the canal front offering spectacular views across Venice, the seven-star Aman Canal Grande was the setting for the reception of a luxurious wedding in Venice, after George Clooney tied the knot with British lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014. The hotel opened in the 450-year-old Palazzo Papadopoli last year and offers rooms ranging in price from a mind blowing £1,000 to £3,200 per night. Guests were chauffeured to the Aman Canal Grande Venice by private water taxi's, and are then lead directly up to the Palazzo’s Reception.
Built in 1550, the luxurious canal-front Renaissance palace had one of the first elevators, electric-powered chandeliers, and phone systems in Venice.
8. American Extravaganza: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West - Palace of Versailles
After announcing a Hollywood wedding in 2011 when Kim wed then husband Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian was intent on making her and Kanye West’s vows more special so opted for their official ceremony at 16th-century-era fortress Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy. They originally chose this location as it is the city where they conceived their daughter, North. Upon exchanging their vows with a beautiful flower wall serving as a backdrop, family and friends officially kicked off the wedding weekend in style the week before with a special reception at the Chateau de Wideville. Soon after, it was followed by a private guided tour of the famed grounds of Versailles. At the Palace of Versailles near Paris, Kim and Kanye threw a lavish pre-wedding dinner that brought out close friends.
