Built around 50 years ago by Remy de Haenen, the island’s first Mayor and loveable local, the hotel originally acted as his home. Placed on the secluded, rocky promontory in St. Jean Bay, his home now stands proudly at one of the most striking locations on the planet.

After Haenen’s home was finished, a number of friendships were formed with the international celebrities, including Greta Garbo, Robert Mitchum and Howard Hughes to name but a few. These close bonds are also now reflected in the hotel’s Legacy Suites, suitably named after both Greta and Howard.

Fast forward forty years and the home was bought by David and Jane Matthews, along with their four children, who undertook the considerable job of restoring the original buildings to their former glory. These changes were made with a keen eye for detail and an aim to retain the charming eccentricity and energy that the house captured for so long.

2014 saw Eden Rock Hotel join the Oetker Collection, which comprises of the most luxurious 5-star hotels worldwide, making it a part of the world’s most inspiring and admirable hotel collections ever. With the Matthews family continuing to oversee the care of the sublime location, and the achievement of making the 2016 Conde Nast Traveler Gold List, the destination continues to be a firm favourite of jet-setters, with distinguished guests from every corner of the globe.
