The Rainbow Room first opened its doors as a supper room in 1934, where the elite of New York would meet, eat and mingle. Taking inspiration from French architect Jacques Carlu’s Round Room, the Rainbow Room boasts a beautiful revolving dance floor, surrounded by inspiring views of the city’s skyline. In 1985 Rainbow Room closed their doors in lieu of a $25 million restoration and expansion. In 1988 the Rainbow Room was handed over to the Italian Cipriani family, which led to complex feuds and rumours regarding the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite. In 2007, it was rumoured that a New Year’s Eve party serving caviar, champagne and truffles charged $1,600 per person. Five years later after a magnitude of disputes regarding Rainbow Room, it was declared a New York city landmark by the New York Landmarks Commission.
